Analyst Ben Reitzes from UBS predicts that Apple’s multi-touch display technology, as seen on the upcoming iPhone, is going to spawn a “mega-platform” spread across many devices.

Analysts are doubtful. They cite the high price point as one major barrier. And even though the worldwide market for smartphones swelled by 42% to 80.5 million devices in 2006 (which is just a drop in the overall cell phone bucket), for Apple to jump in and score such a large percentage in the first year seems unlikely.

“We expect multi-touch to be prevalent in Apple’s major hardware products within three to five years — making its way into touch-screen Macs next year,” he said. “We also expect new touch-screen video iPods, ultra portables, more phones and possibly even TVs in the future.”

Show organisers, IDG World Expo, today revealed that Apple’s January iPhone launch pad attracted 45,572 attendees in 2007, compared to 38,441 in 2006 – up 19 per cent.

The smallest and most compact flash drive yet has been announced by samsung. It’s 8 GB and double the speed of normal flash drive. It’s size can allow it to be implemented in a phone or a handheld (such as the PSP v2 whenever sony announces it) along with a 3D graphics chip, allowing for new mobile apps and games.
